Home Is Where The Heart Is

The ongoing series “Home Is Where The Heart Is” is a reflection on belonging, finding your place and understanding that home is not just tied to a geographic location, but to the relationships we carry with ourselves, our loved ones and our surroundings. The artworks on this series are inspired by family and found vintage photographs, made with acrylic inks and crochet using the remaining soft-pink and sparkling wallpaper from my first solo exhibition that took place in my hometown São Paulo, in 2018. This series is also about the challenges and the joys of being an immigrant. You can oftentimes feel like you don’t belong anywhere anymore, but also that you get to find home wherever you are because of the relationships that support us and makes us feel like we are exactly where we are meant to be. Scenes of solitude where you are taking your place in this world, scenes of quiet moments with friends and of celebrating life with our soul or origin family invite us to remember that we get to choose a ‘home’ that feels peaceful and comforting to enjoy our days.
